应夏元钦教授邀请，受哈尔滨工业大学国际合作与交流基金、985工程学科（学术）后备带头人培育项目资助，美国俄亥俄州立大学Prof. Dongping Zhong访问我校并受聘我校光学工程学科兼职教授。Prof. Dongping Zhong在哈工大科学园2A栋可调谐激光技术国家级实验室学术报告厅322室在上午和下午分别做了两场学术报告，题目分别是《Soothing the burn: Repairing sun-damaged DNA with enzymes》以及《Watch Water Dancing with Protein: Hydration Dynamics and Coupled Water-Protein Fluctuations》，Prof. Dongping Zhong生动介绍了他所在的课题组在利用超快激光光谱观察受损的DNA修复损伤的情况以及蛋白质内水合分子与蛋白质振动超快动力学过程，来自哈工大物理系、化学系、生命科学系及材料学院以及黑龙江大学相关专业教师、学生大约70-80人参加了此次报告会，报告会讨论热烈，提问踊跃，每个报告之后讨论时间大约1个小时。Prof. Dongping Zhong哈尔滨工业大学兼职教授受聘仪式在哈工大主楼244会议室举行，由夏元钦教授主持，航天学院党委副书记段云老师、副院长吕志伟教授、可调谐激光技术国家级重点实验室副主任任德明教授等学科相关领导参加受聘仪式。段云副书记为Prof. Dongping Zhong颁发兼职教授证书，向Prof. Dongping Zhong介绍了哈工大航天学院发展历程，着重强调了目前学院的学科建设、人才培养和科学研究等方面工作，并向Prof. Dongping Zhong赠送航天学院的纪念册。吕志伟教授在仪式上与Prof. Dongping Zhong进行了详细的交流，双方在学科建设、师资力量、教学研究等方面作了深入的探讨。
Prof. Dongping Zhong感谢哈工大航天学院给予他的荣誉，并一再表示哈尔滨工业大学是他曾经梦想考取的大学，哈工大是一所历史悠久，培养出众多优秀人才的知名学府，他希望日后能够与航天学院光学工程学科加强合作，共同建立高水平实验室，互派学者访问，接收或推荐哈工大优秀学生到美国高校短期学术交流。当天，Prof. Dongping Zhong参观了哈工大可调谐激光技术国家级重点实验室超快激光实验室、哈工大生命科学系以及凝聚态物理中心超快实验室，与相关实验室教师就相关课题研究工作进行了讨论，就一些学术研究进行了指导，就一些具体学术问题给出了建议。Prof. Dongping Zhong游览了哈尔滨市容，参观了索菲亚教堂、中央大街、松花江以及太阳岛公园。
Invited by Prof. Yuanqin Xia of School of Astronautics, subsidized by International Cooperation and Communication Funds of Harbin Institute of Technology and project of cultivating academic leader of engineering discipline under 985 project, Prof. Dongping Zhong from Ohio State university, USA visited Harbin Institute of Technology at August 22, 2011 and was appointed as an adjunct professor of Optical Engineering discipline. Prof. Dongping Zhong gave lecture in National Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Tunable Laser in HIT science park featuring on SOOTHING THE BURN: REPAIRING SUN-DAMAGED DNA WITH ENZYMES and WATCH WATER DANCING WITH PROTEIN: HYDRATION DYNAMICS AND COUPLED WATER-PROTEIN FLUCTUATIONS at August 23. And Prof. Dongping Zhong introduced the current research interests of his research group, which mainly focus on application of ultra-fast laser spectrum method on detection of self-restore process of damaged DNA and ultra-fast dynamic process of protein and water within the protein molecule. Teachers from department of physics, department of chemistry, department of life sciences and engineering, school of material science and engineering and Heilongjiang University took part in the lecture, and there were around 80 students majoring in physics, chemistry, biology and material attended the lecture. Prof. Dongping Zhong had interaction with the attendants and answered some questions for about one hour after the lecture. The ceremony of appointment, hosted by Prof. Yuanqin Xia, was held in the morning of August 22 in the conference room, room 224 of HIT main building. The participants include Mr. Yun Duan, deputy party secretary of School of Astronautics, Prof. Zhiwei Lv, vice-president of School of Astronautics, Prof. Deming Ren, deputy director of National Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Tunable Laser and other leaders of the discipline.
Mr. Yun Duan awarded Prof. Dongping Zhong the certificate of adjunct professor, introduced development history of School of Astronautics of HIT to Prof. Zhong, and emphasized current discipline construction, personnel training and scientific research of the school. Besides, Prof. Zhong was complimented with the album of School of Astronautics by Mr. Yun Duan. Prof. Zhiwei Lv expressed the warm welcome to Prof. Zhong on the ceremony, and showed great confidence in the rapid development of Optical Engineering discipline after Prof. Zhong’s participation. Then the two professors carried out a detailed communication and deep discussion about discipline construction, teacher resources and scientific research. Furthermore, Prof. Dongping Zhong delivered huge thanks for the honor given by School of Astronautics of Harbin Institute of Technology, he said HIT was the university he had been dreaming of, HIT is a renowned academy with a long history and a host of excellent talents. Then Prof. Zhong expressed strong hope of strengthening cooperation with Optical Engineering discipline of School of Astronautics in the future, building high-level laboratories together, exchanging visiting scholars and receiving or recommending outstanding students of HIT to conduct short-term academic exchange in American universities. In the afternoon, Prof Dongping Zhong was also invited to visit the Ultra-Fast laser laboratory of National Key Laboratory of Science and Technology on Tunable Laser, department of life sciences and engineering of HIT, the Ultra-Fast laser laboratory of Condensed Matter Physics Center. He also discussed some interesting issues with the researchers there and gave some important advice on the study of interaction between fs laser pulses and matter. In addition, Prof Dongping Zhong went sightseeing and visited the Sant Sofia Church, Central Avenue and Sun Island in the afternoon.
